Book Review: King's Falling

It's been almost a year since my last blog post, which is sad to admit, but there has just been a lot going on in my life. So what better timing than to re-launch this blog with a book review during a pandemic, assuredly the most bizarre time of my life.

Ironically my last post was the first book in this series, the Book of Wars. King's Falling by Ronie Kendig is the second installment, that needed very little set up and packed a punch with action.

Rating: 5/5 ⭐
What You Need to Know: This book was riddled with so much action, I was finding spots to put the book down at night to sleep. The story continues with Leif, Iskra, and the rest of the Reaper team as they continue to find and decode the Book of Wars and hunt down the ArC.

More about Leif and Iskra's past unfolds as it comes back to haunt them. The more frustrating dynamic of the book was all the secrets that the characters seem to be keeping with each other, but it weaves together the perfect storm. My personal favorite part of the book was Mercy, and the relationship that unfolds between the reader between Adam Lawe and Peyton Devine. It was extremely exciting to get to know these characters on a deeper level and I found that I wanted more of them! I only wish that we were able to see more of Baddar and his personality unfold between him and Mercy.

If you are a fan of the Jason Bourne series and/or superheroes, this book is right up your ally. As Leif tries to piece together why he is the way he is, he has flashbacks and the reader is piecing the puzzle right a long with him. There are a lot of military terminology in the book, but it was easy to figure out what it is referring to, or fun to look up and be surprised as to the definition. I look forward to reading the last installment, as the author left us with a gripping cliffhanger that needs to be solved now.

I received this book for free but was under no obligation to post a review. The post above is my own thoughts and opinions done by my own desire.

The Back of the Book:
"Leif Metcalfe and his team, dubbed Reaper, need to recover the stolen, ancient Book of the Wars if they hope to stop the Armageddon Coalition and their pursuit of global economic control. But their attention has been diverted by a prophecy in the book that foretells of formidable guardians who will decimate the enemies of ArC. While Iskra Todorova uses her connections in the covert underworld to hunt down the Book of the Wars, Leif and Reaper attempt to neutralize these agents but quickly find themselves outmaneuvered and outgunned.

The more Reaper tries to stop the guardians, the more failure becomes a familiar, antagonistic foe. Friendships are fractured, and the team battles to hold it together long enough to defeat ArC. But as this millennia-old conspiracy creeps closer and closer to home, the implications could tear Leif and the team apart."
