The Body Shop- My Top Favorites

The Good News is that The Body Shop (you know that store that smells like amazing oranges when you walk by) has a new at home, independent consultant component to their business in the U.S.. With COVID running 2020 and keeping the outdoor shopping either to a minimum or less desirable, everyone is doing some form of shopping online. I've been using The Body Shop's products since 2009 and to say I was addicted would be an understatement. When I first considered becoming a consultant, I told three people, My husband, mom and best friend, and they were all very aware of my dabbling at this store. I'm very excited to be apart of this journey with them. So, to kick off our adventure, I thought it would be fun to show you my Top 5 favorite products!

Number 1 (sings in Ten Dueling Commandments from Hamilton)- Vitamin E Gentle Face Wash:

In 2013 I underwent a month of radiation treatment for Brain Cancer. Since my face was also taking on the radiation, I knew I needed something gentle but also made my face felt clean. Cue the Vitamin E line. My skin became so sensitive from treatment, that I found myself more prone to breakouts, but when I used this, my skins natural oils were preserved, face felt clean, and removed any dirt or muck from daily life. If you're feeling a bit stuck on where to find good quality skincare I highly recommend starting here.

Number 2- Shimmer Waves:

The Shimmer Waves has gotten a makeover since I used it, but the color tones are exactly the same. This 3-in-1 comes in 3 shades: 2 tones of bronzer (light and dark) and a blush tone. The one pictured is the shade palette I use as my skin is a mid-olive tone. When creating warm sun kissed skin, depth is needed to give us a natural look. The very first row is a light pink layer that can work as a blush, the next two give you a sun glow after beach look, while the third row works as a contour/ true bronzer, and your last row is highlight. And why limit yourself to cheek bones? Swipe the mid two over your eyes and use as an eye shadow and the bottom for the inner eyelid. It's multi functional! Its $20 price tag might be a turn off to people who like to keep it drugstore, but this product lasted me at least 9 months ( I took holiday photos using it). The other good news is that it's vegan and dermatologist tested.

Number 3- Lip Butter

I am obsessed with all things Strawberry and Satsuma from this store. I had one of each of these lip butters in my bag when I was in college. My lips have always been prone to drying and cracking easily-a sign you don't drink enough water, which is fair, because that is something I've always struggled with, but I also grew up in a valley, where winter was non-existent but when it did decide to grace us with its presence, it left me feeling raw. I also did a lot of talking back in college between presentations and working as a barista at Starbucks. The scent is light and doesn't make your lips feel sticky plus it comes in most of the signature scents that makes The Body Shop famous.

Number 4- Soap!

I know, I know. Out of the plethora amounts of products they have, soap is one of my favorites, but before you put your judgy pants on or close out this blog, you have to know why I love this soap so much. First of all, for a cruelty free and vegetarian product it lathers super well. I am always surprised to learn when natural products still have that bubbly feel to them. Secondly, I was initially disappointed to learn that they use palm oil at all in their products which leads to deforestation. However, that just did not seem to line up with their mission, so I did further digging. The Body Shop only sources their Palm Oil from 100% RSPO certified distributors. Without getting too technical or geeking out on you, The RSPO has an extremely rigorous standard in order to be certified which includes 8 criteria markers that are re-evaluated every year. The WWF also has some words to say about The Body Shops commitment to taking care of the Earth.

Number 5- Satsuma Body Butter

I decided to save the best for last because if you made it this far in my post, then you deserve the best product for last. I honestly, love the smell of Satsuma. Whenever I get a whiff of this scent, I am transported to a different time. Scent is heavily connected to memory, and this is my happy thought. Since I am a California girl at heart, soul, and not really body but you get the idea, smelling like an orange is a dream. The body butter from The Body Shop is thick (if that not your jam, I recommend trying their yogurts) and hydrates extremely dry skin without that awful burning feeling. The beauty of The Body Shop is that they use Community Trade Cocoa and Soya for the body butters.
