Book Review: Gilded Cage

Overall Review: 4/5

Word to the Wise: It was a bit darker than I initially expected. This was a totally different genre for me personally. There are darker themes in this book.

What's the skinny: This story is fresh and unique and cannot be defined. Vic James touches on the struggles between class, economics, social order, and tradition. The author uniquely weaves multiple characters point of views and intertwines their lives to create a compelling story.

The whole time I was reading it I felt myself go "Okay this is interesting", and to be honest it is very interesting. The world feels fresh while also feeling like I am visiting a very similar England in a Charles Dickens novel. Each chapter is told in a differing characters point of view, and at times the plot was difficult to follow in the ways of time, the story still progressed in a compelling fashion. I wanted to read more.

Not only was this book different for me (I am more Romance novel kind of girl), this was not my typical summer read. I generally pick up a light and not much to think about novel but the author does anything but that with her characters. I found myself working through the difficult thoughts and actions that the Jardines and the Hadleys had to make. Plus, I was totally shocked and surprised by the ending (so yes this book is a bit of a mystery). I thought I had it all figured out but I definitely DID NOT have the whole story pieced together.

As we are heading into fall, I would recommend this novel and gear up for her sequel that is coming out Tarnished City that is coming out in February 2018!
